A renovation defined by light and void, where selective intervention transforms an introverted residence into a spatially connected and daylight-driven home.
The brief
This private villa renovation reinterprets an existing two-level residential building through the simultaneous transformation of façade and interior space. The intervention focuses on clarification rather than replacement, redefining spatial organization, environmental performance, and architectural identity.
The primary objective is to shift the house from an introverted condition toward a light-oriented living environment. An existing sunken courtyard is expanded and redefined as the central spatial and environmental device of the project. The enlarged void introduces daylight deep into the basement level, allowing lower-floor spaces to receive natural light, ventilation, and visual continuity with the exterior.
Interior spaces are reorganized around this new spatial logic, where circulation, openings, and material continuity connect both levels. Light and movement become the primary drivers of spatial experience, replacing enclosure as the dominant condition.
Scope of Work
A restrained material approach reinforces spatial clarity and emphasizes the relationship between light, void, and structure.
Neutral surfaces, controlled openings, and continuous material transitions support a calm and coherent interior atmosphere, where daylight becomes the defining architectural element connecting both floors.
