A contemporary private estate in Dubai, designed as a spatial dialogue between architecture, water, and the desert landscape
The brief
Located within the expansive desert setting of Al Aweer, Dubai, this private residential compound was conceived as a contemporary reinterpretation of the classical villa typology. Occupying a 25,000 m² site, the project consists of five distinct structures — the Main Villa, Guest Villa, Majlis, Stable, and Pavilion — carefully positioned to create a cohesive architectural composition within the landscape.
The design responds to the transitional character of the site, situated between Dubai’s growing urban fabric and the openness of the desert. Rather than imposing on the environment, the architecture is shaped through climatic sensitivity, spatial layering, and controlled visual connections.
A central design intervention redefines the role of water within the estate. Previously isolated from the architecture, the swimming pool is reintegrated into the spatial framework of the compound, establishing continuity between built form and landscape. Cascading water elements interact with shaded terraces, deep overhangs, and carved volumes to soften the desert climate while enhancing the sensory experience of the spaces.
Interior and exterior environments function as a continuous architectural system, where thresholds, openings, and privacy layers regulate light, movement, and environmental performance. The result is a residence that balances monumentality with intimacy, creating a refined retreat rooted in context, climate, and spatial experience.
